Xiaomi confirms Mi Mix to feature 'Liquid Lens' camera, here's what it means
So, what is Liquid Lens camera tech and how will it change the way you shoot images?

Xiaomi just recently confirmed that it will soon launch a new smartphone under its Mi Mix series, which in the past, has received a lot of popularity and appreciation for the innovation. While the launch date is set, the company CEO Lei Jun shortly confirmed on Weibo that this might be the first by Xiaomi to feature Liquid Lens camera technology.
So, what is Liquid Lens camera tech and how will it change the way you shoot images? In the most basic language, Liquid Lens includes optical-grade liquid that is controlled mechanically or electronically. This happens in milliseconds and will result in a drastic reduction in time of autofocus as they can quickly change the focal length. Another plus point with Liquid Lenses are that they take up less space than the traditional lens, which will give OEMs a bit more flexibility to add more features and components.

Xiaomi's Lei Jun states that the solution used here is made by the company itself and is controlled via a motor for precise and quick focussing. The liquid is said to be wrapped by a film. Jun added that this single lens can also take the job of both macro and telephoto cameras. Also mentioned is that the optical fluid has high light transmittance along with ultra-low dispersion and resistance to extreme environments.
While we cannot just say if this is the future of smartphone photography or not, considering we have all kinds of innovation taking place ranging from 108MP sensors to Periscope lenses and Gimbal cameras, but what's commendable is Xiaomi taking a risk and going ahead with something nobody has tried it yet.
The firm has not yet given a date when it will launch the new Mi Mix in India.
