Rumours of an iPhone SE 5G are at an all-time high. Tipsters and analysts have afformed that the iPhone SE 2022 version is likely to be a updated iPhone SE 2020 with a new chipset only; rest of the features are likely to remain unchanged. For first-time iPhone buyers or those on a limited budget, this seems like a great deal to wait for. However, you may be better off buying the current 4G iPhone SE 2020.

Apple is yet to confirm any details on the iPhone SE 2022 5G model and hence, you should make your decision post an official announcement. However, if the iPhone SE 2022 ends up exactly like the iPhone SE 2020, you will make a smarter deal by buying the latter. The current-gen iPhone SE is infact one of the best deals for an iPhone buyer for the next few years to come.

iPhone SE 2022: What do the leaks say

Not much, actually. The iPhone SE 2022 5G is said to be a revamped version of the iPhone SE 2020, which itself was a revamped version of the iPhone 8 from 2017. However, in the history of the iPhone SE lineup, Apple has always launched a completely new model and hence, there's a possibility that the iPhone SE 5G could be completely different to the one we expect.

Nonetheless, the leaks suggest that the iPhone SE 2022 could have the A15 Bionic chip from the iPhone 13. It will retain the 4.7-inch retina display, the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, an IP67 water and dust resistance rating, wireless charging, and support for up to six years of iOS updates. For someone waiting to upgrade to an iPhone or replace their old iPhone 7, this seems like a tempting deal.

Here's why we think you will be better off with the iPhone SE 2020 than waiting for the iPhone SE 2022.

-Apple is yet to confirm the iPhone SE upgrade and given that leaks predict a lot of false info, it could be possible that Apple may launch it two years later. The iPhone SE 2020 came four years after the original iPhone SE.

-The iPhone SE 2022 with its rumoured A15 5G chip will obviously carry a higher price tag. Nobody buys an iPhone SE for gaming or video editing on the move. For basic smartphone tasks, the iPhone SE 2020 can do basically everything the 5G version may be able to do. The A13 Bionic chip in the iPhone SE is more than capable for most use cases. For a smartphone starting at ₹28,499, that is a very good deal by all means for iPhone seekers. Hence, why would you spend more when the cheaper version could do all the same things? 

-5G in India could take a few years to be available widely and hence, sticking with the 4G variant won't make you lose much on the connectivity front.
