OS updates usually roll in with bug fixes and patches that make the overall iPhone experience better. And usually, these updates do not create issues. However, the latest iOS update seems to have caused a world of trouble for a lot of iPhone users globally. The iOS 14.7.1 update that rolled out recently has been creating trouble for iPhone users who updated their devices. As per discussions on the Apple support forum, several users have been complaining that iOS 14.7.1 has broken their iPhones causing a “no service” issue. This has lead to users being unable to connect to cell service.

And Apple's support forum is not the only place where users have been complaining. Similar issues were also spotted on threads on Apple's developer forums as well. “I have an iPhone 11 and I have installed iOS 14.4.7 and since then I do not have the signal or cellular data. It is displayed ‘no service' or ‘searching'. I tried a lot of things like: exchage the SIM, eSIM, reset network settings, erase all content and settings....same issues. It seems that it is hardware problem (motherboard) that Apple probably knows or this version of iOS has some bugs. Do you have any idea how to fix it except that proposed by our local service to buy a new phone?” wrote one user on the Apple support forum.

“I updated my software to 14.7.1 recently and lost my cellular data completely. I have tried all the trouble shooting steps and still cannot get it to work,” wrote another user on the Apple Developer forum.

As ZDNet pointed out, there doesn't seem to be a pattern to which phones are getting affected by this iOS 14.7.1 update. There are reports of iPhone 6 to iPhone 12 devices getting affected. So the only common feature amongst all the devices facing the issue is the iOS 14.7.1 update.

Apple's support page lists out a lot of different solutions like rebooting, removing and reinserting the SIM card, etc, but it looks like none of that is working out for users. Cellular service providers also have been unable to help. So is there no fix?

For now it seems like iPhone users being plagued by this issue will just have to wait for Apple to roll out a patch. There is no other immediate solution.

If you have not updated to the iOS 14.7.1 it's best you wait till Apple rolls out an update. If your device malfunctions like it has happened for others, there's not much that you can do.
