Jio 5G not coming on all Xiaomi 5G devices? Xiaomi and Reliance Jio recently released a list of all the supported devices from Xiaomi's portfolio that will support Jio's Standalone 5G network. In its official press announcement, Xiaomi India listed all the devices that support Jio's 5G network and they include almost all of the recently announced 5G models. Almost all 5G enabled models from 2022 are included in the list and so are the models from 2021. There are two glaring omissions here.

Back in 2020, Xiaomi India launched its first 5G smartphone for the market, which also helped it enter the premium smartphone market. The device was the Mi 10 5G and used the 5G compatible Snapdragon 865 chip. The spec sheet also mentioned support for both SA and NSA 5G networks. A year later, Xiaomi also announced the Mi 10i in India with support for 5G networks at a much more affordable price.

However, these two devices are missing from list of supported devices on Jio 5G.

First Xiaomi 5G phone in India not supporting Jio 5G?

“Models supporting SA network have received software update to work seamlessly on Reliance Jio's True 5G SA network. The enabled devices include Mi 11 Ultra 5G, Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G, Xiaomi 11T Pro 5G, Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G, Redmi Note 11T 5G, Redmi 11 Prime 5G, Redmi Note 10T 5G, Mi 11X 5G, Mi 11X Pro 5G, Redmi K50i 5G, Xiaomi 11i 5G and Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G,” said the official release.

The oldest device present in the list is the Redmi Note 10T. Surprisingly, there is no mention of the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Xiaomi Mi 10i. HT Tech reached out to Xiaomi India for clarification and a spokesperson mentioned, “List of devices has been mentioned in the release.”

This is surprising given that the Mi 10i and Mi 10 were sold on the promise of supporting all 5G networks across the globe. The Mi 10 was a flagship model too and it surely deserved to be on the list. The spec page for Mi 10 lists support for SA 5G networks whereas the Mi 10i doesn't mention any such thing.

The Standalone network that Jio is using doesn't rely on the older 4G LTE infrastructure and solely uses 5G gear. This allows faster data speeds at expense of connection reliability. Airtel is using the NSA network, wherein it relies on its 4G LTE infrastructure to offer a reliable 5G experience.
