Xiaomi claims to have equalled Apple’s iPhone with its new haptic feedback system in the upcoming Redmi K50.

The Redmi K50 is around the corner and as always, there's a considerable amount of hype in China. This time though, Redmi starts its tone of many teasers by unveiling an interesting aspect of the Redmi K50. It says that the Redmi K50 uses a new CyberEngine haptics motor that can rival the iPhone's haptic feedback motor! And this isn't some wild claim; Redmi has data to prove how much of an improvement is it over the regular vibration motors.

Redmi says that the CyberEngine haptic motor in the Redmi K50 is three times more powerful than any other vibration motor used in Android phones. The motor measures 560 cubic millimeters and is offers a frequency resonance between 50Hz and 500Hz. Xiaomi says that this is similar to the iPhone's vibration motor that offers up to 130Hz of resonant frequency.

It remains to be seen whether Redmi brings this new haptic feedback motor to all models of the Redmi K50 series or just limit it to the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition.

For a long time, Apple's iPhone has ruled when it comes to haptic feedback. Android phones have struggled for a long time with this aspect and despite having multiple-axis vibration motors, none of them could compare with what the iPhone offers.

It is slightly surprising to see Xiaomi developing an “iPhone-beating” technology and lettings its sub-brand Redmi introduce it in its flagship range. Xiaomi's recently announced flagship series, the Xiaomi 12 series, gets the regular haptic feedback system. That said, Xiaomi has so far unveiled only the Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12X and Xiaomi 12 Pro in China. A successor to the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is yet to arrive and Xiaomi could reserve this haptic feedback system for its ultimate flagship smartphone.

Leaks have so far revealed the possibility of Xiaomi using most of the fastest chipsets from Qualcomm and MediaTek across the entire range. The Redmi K50 Gaming Edition is expected to launch as early as February 2022, relying the Dimensity 8000 and Dimensity 9000 chipsets. Regular “non-gaming” models could feature the Snapdragon 870 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chips.
