Xiaomi 12 will do a “world debut” of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip! What is world debut? We don't know, as Motorola has already announced launching its Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship on December 9. Xiaomi could, however, be the first one to launch its flagship for global markets, including Europe.

The Xiaomi 12 name has been confirmed but none of its expected features or design teasers have been done yet, except for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. Based on the previous rumours, we expect the Xiaomi 12 to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-equipped flagbearer while a more affordable Xiaomi 12X could launch with the older Snapdragon 870 as a more affordable model.

Xiaomi 12 confirmed with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 marks a new nomenclature for the high-end Qualcomm chips. Along with the new branding, the chip promises up to 30 percent of performance improvements over the older Snapdragon 888. There are notable upgrades to the ISP and GPU as well.

While we are yet to see major leaks related to the Xiaomi 12, we expect the phone to be an upgraded iteration of the Xiaomi Mi 11 from last year. Xiaomi could later unveil a Xiaomi 12 Ultra with top-grade cameras and everything else to take on the rumoured Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra this year.

Weirdly, Samsung isn't included in the name of the manufacturers already committing to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. This is despite rumours suggesting Samsung working on the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S22 models. In fact, India is expected to get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 variants instead of the next-gen Exynos chip with the AMD graphics.

Motorola, on the other hand, has already confirmed launching the Edge X30 on December 9 as the first phone in the world to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The Edge S30 is also expected to be announced, which could be a rebadged Moto G200.
