Snapchat's Friendship Time Capsule lets you and your friend take future selfies.

Snapchat has launched ‘The Friendship Time Capsule’ globally. It’s a new Snapchat Lens that lets users time travel with their friends on the app. Snapchat’s Friendship Time Capsule is now available for users globally, and in India as well.

The Friendship Time Capsule lets you take future selfies with your friend on Snapchat. The first selfie shows how you look right now in 2020, and the second one shows your future self. For example, if you choose 2040, Snapchat’s age filter is applied to your selfie to show that you’ve aged over the years. The 2020 selfie has a mask seemingly depicting the current situation.

“The Snappable uses machine learning to allow friends to get a glimpse of their friendship in a variety of scenarios in the future,” Snapchat said in a release.

To unlock the future years, you’ll have to send a Friendship Capsule selfie. Starting from 2020, you can send future selfies from the years 2040, 2060, 2080, 2100 and 2120. After each selfie sent to a friend, the following years will unlock one after another.

How to use Snapchat’s Friendship Time Capsule

Open the Snapchat app.

Tap on the smiley icon to launch the Lens carousel.

The Friendship Capsule should be the first Lens on the left side.

Select the Lens and start capturing your future selfies.

Snapchat’s Friendship Capsule comes shortly after the company launched its second global friendship study. Snapchat in its study highlighted how Covid-19 has affected friendships globally, and in India. Snapchat interviewed 30,000 people across 16 countries for its friendship study.
