Battlegrounds Mobile India’s data sharing issue with Chinese servers fixed now
Battlegrounds Mobile India has been under scrutiny ever since it rolled out early access to some players last week. And that is not surprising since one of the main reasons why PUBG Mobile got banned in India earlier was due to the fact that the game was sensing Indian users' data to Chinese servers. That ghost is back to haunt Krafton again, for Battlegrounds Mobile India this time.
It was reported that the game was sending and receiving data to and from servers in China. To be fair, the same thing is happening with servers in Hong Kong, Moscow, and the US. Reports had it that the game was pinging a Tencent server in Beijing while booting up. Krafton had cut ties with Tencent, a Chinese company, last year in order to be able to revive the game for Indian users. But it looks like Krafton is not keeping its promise. However, to end the issue, the company has released a small updater to fix this China server issue.
IGN India was the first to report that Battlegrounds Mobile India was hosting data in servers in China and other countries and has now reported that the game “will not be sharing information with Chinese servers anymore when you play the game”. A small automatic update that gets downloaded when you boot up the game has fixed this issue. Once you have updated the game, you will have to restart it and log back in.
This new update reportedly prevents any data from going to the Chinese server from Battlegrounds Mobile India. IGN India ran a packet sniffer while playing through two Battlegrounds Mobile India games and found that, post the update, the game was not notifying “a single Chinese server”. The only time a Chinese server is pinged is when app data was deleted, according to reports. This could have been due to the “account migration” feature that allows older PUBG Mobile players to carry over their in-app purchases to Battlegrounds Mobile India.
