Thomson launches new washing machines in India

Thomson's new range of washing machines come at a starting price of ₹6,999 in India.

Thomson, up until now, has been offering smart TVs to its customers in India. Today, the French brand expanded its portfolio in India by launching a new home appliance segment, that is washing machines, in the country.

The company has launched a range of semi-automatic washing machines in the country that will be available in three different variants -- a 6.5Kg variant that costs ₹6,999, a 7.5Kg variant that costs ₹7,999 and an 8.5 Kg variant that costs ₹9,499.

This new line of washing machines, just like the company's television portfolio, has been made in India, and they are available for purchase in the country exclusively via Flipkart.

“Consumers today are spending more time at home and want to become self-reliant. Absence of domestic help and ‘work from home' in the lockdown has created demand for appliances, there has been a spike in the use of washing machines too. We have a pipeline of new launches, for the coming months and every year we will continue to broaden our portfolio across the home appliance category,” Avneet Singh Marwah, CEO SPPL , said as the company diversified its India portfolio.

Apart from launching a new home appliance segment in the country, the company is planning to strengthen its overall presence across India's consumer electronics sector. Superplastronics Pvt Ltd (SPPL), the company that licences the Thomson brand in India has already invested in a new plant in Uttar Pradesh. The plant will be operational on getting regulatory clearances. Additionally, Thomson announced that it will be investing a sum of ₹1,000 crores in India in the coming five year.
