After introducing a refreshed iMac recently, according to Jon Prosser, Apple is going to push out a significantly redesigned MacBook Air in the near future. And the biggest change in design is going to be that the company is getting rid of the tapered design that we've now come to associate with the MacBook Air. The tapered unibody design has been in use since its introduction in 2008, this is going to be replaced with a look that brings the MacBook Air more in line with the iMac and the MacBook Pro.

Prosser claimed in a video he posted recently that the upcoming MacBook Air is going to feature flat edges, like the MacBook Pro and come in multiple colours like the new iMac. He also said that he was given genuine images of the upcoming laptop but he hasn't shared them to protect his source. Instead, Prosser shared renders that were created in collaboration with RendersBylan.

These renders show a device that's supposed to be the new MacBook Air and it comes in a bunch of colours like the iMac Apple launched recently. One can also spot the USB-C port on the side. The information one can gather from these renders is rather limited, but it does give us some insight into what it might look like. There is also no clarity about how Apple plans to implement the return of its MagSafe tech on this.

The new MacBook Air is expected to come with white bezels around the display along with a redesigned keyboard that's also white. This is a pretty significant departure from the current MacBook Air design that sports black bezels and black keys. The renders show that the new colour changes work with the varied colours, however, what we do not know is how thick these bezels are going to be.

Given the changes Apple brought in on the iMac, it will not be surprising to see something similar happen to the MacBook Air or the MacBook Pro. Along with the potential redesign, Apple is also working on the M2 chip and if Prosser is right, it might make its debut on the upcoming, redesigned MacBook Air.
