After some anticipation, a report has claimed that new Mac devices will be launched before the end of the year. The information comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who has revealed that Apple will likely host its Mac event between October 30 and October 31, bringing upgraded MacBook Pro models and a new iMac for consumers. The launch may witness several configurations of 24-inch iMac, alongside new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. The event will be held just a week away but the fact that it is yet to be announced officially might make it one of the shortest announcement-to-launch event cycles for the tech giant.

Gurman highlights in his report that currently, Apple's iMacs and MacBook Pros are in “extremely short supply online and at retail stores”, and are facing shipping delays that run into mid-November. This delay could be a big indication that new products might be introduced by Apple, according to historical trends.

Apple to hold a Mac launch event?

But this is not the only clue we have regarding the possible Mac launch event at the end of the current month. Gurman also pointed out that Apple's next earnings call with its investors is scheduled for November 12. Interestingly, the last time Apple held an earnings call in November to post its quarterly revenue targets was in 2018. Interestingly, that year Apple held a launch event to introduce new iPads and Macs on October 30.

These two reasons combined make the likelihood of a Mac launch event at the end of the month quite likely. To make matters more exciting, Gurman also revealed some details about the products that could be launched.

A new 24-inch iMac is expected to be the highlight of this event, as the company has not refreshed the current iMac for more than 900 days and is one of the only devices in Apple's Mac lineup that still runs on the M1 chip. But Apple has planned a big fanfare for the device as Gurman stated that the new iMac might be powered by the M3-chipset, instead of an iterative update to the M2 chip. This could result in a major boost to its performance and efficiency.

But that's not all. Apple is expected to launch the upgraded versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros during the event as well. While this move might be perceived as odd, given that Apple updated the MacBook Pros in January 2023, the Bloomberg report claims "an additional update the same year would be unusual, but not inconceivable”.

However, the MacBook Pro models are not expected to feature any major upgrades this time apart from the incremental processor boost. Earlier, it was reported by Gurman that upcoming MacBook Pro models could be equipped with M3 Pro and M3 Max chipsets. But that launch was predicted to be for March-April 2024, and it will be surprising if Apple makes the jump in this event. A more logical upgrade could be adding performance and optimization-related upgrades to the M2 Pro and M2 Max. Similarly, no changes relating to its design or other hardware components are expected at this time.

Do note, that the information shared here is based on leaks and has yet to be officially announced by Apple. So, take it with a pinch of salt and wait for Apple to make the announcement before you get excited to own a new iMac or MacBook Pro.
