One of the biggest highlights on the new 2021 MacBook Pro models was the inclusion of a display notch. Apple said it allowed them to stretch the display to the edges while retaining the camera and True tone sensors in the conventional spot. Apparently, early adopters of these new MacBook Pro models found a bug that hindered their workflow. Apple has now released a temporary fix for the issue.

Similar to the early Android phones dealing with display notches and cutouts, the MacBook Pro will allow apps to fit outside the notch, leaving a black bar alongside the notch and sides. It's called “Scale to fit below built-in camera” and is accessible to all the apps that don't support the new layout yet. The option will simply fit the app within the display's expanses where the notch does not disturb the app's functionality.

The option is available for the apps and it scales it outside the notch as long as the app is running in the background. The full sized notch display will reappear once the app is opened again. Once developers figure out a way to make peace with the new notch, the option will disappear.

The bug was initially identified by some early buyers of the MacBook Pro who found several app options and elements are hidden behind the display notch. This quick fix currently brings black bars all around the app, thereby making the display look no different than the M1 MacBook Air.

The new MacBook Pro models are based on the Apple silicon chips, namely the M1 Pro and M1 Max. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip starts at INR 1,94,900 and you can configure it with the more powerful M1 Max chip. The 16-inch MacBook Pro also gets the choice of two chips, starting at INR 2,39,900 for the base version. These laptops will go on pre-order from October 29 in India and come in only a single colour variant.
