Motorola Edge 20 Pro Indian launch confirmed; what to expect

Motorola has hinted at launching the Motorola Edge 20 Pro flagship in India soon. The Edge 20 Pro will join the Edge 20 and Edge 20 Fusion in India.

The Motorola Edge 20 Pro is slated to be Motorola's next smartphone launch in India, as suggested by the latest teasers. The Edge 20 Pro is expected to be the company's conventional flagship smartphone this year as it still sells last year's foldable Razr 5G. Compared to the standard Motorola Edge 20, the Edge 20 Pro offers upgraded cameras and more performance.

Motorola is yet to announce a launch date formally for the Edge 20 Pro but based on the Flipkart listing, it seems the announcement could take place on October 1. The phone was globally announced along with the Edge 20 and Edge 20 Fusion back in July 2021. 

Motorola Edge 20 Pro launching soon 

The Edge 20 Pro is loosely based on the Edge 20 midrange model that launched earlier. However, the Pro variant gets a faster chipset, better cameras, and more storage.

Instead of the midrange Snapdragon 778G chip, the Edge 20 Pro relies on the Snapdragon 870 chipset. The Snapdragon 870 is a high-end processor that delivers the same kind of performance as last year's Snapdragon 865. However, it still falls behind the mighty Snapdragon 888 and it remains to be seen whether Motorola does a higher-end version of this model.

The Edge 20 Pro carries over the same 6.7-inch AMOLED display from the Edge 20, complete with its 144Hz refresh rate and support for HDR10+ colours. The phone relies on a 4500mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging. There's no wireless charging on this one like the Edge Pro.

When it comes to the cameras, the Edge 20 Pro offers upgraded hardware. The main camera uses a 108-megapixel sensor that is accompanied by a 16-megapixel ultra-wide camera. The third camera is an 8-megapixel telephoto shooter with 5x optical zoom and the ability to digitally zoom up to 50X. Selfies and video calls are handled by a 32-megapixel front camera.

What remains to be seen is how Motorola prices this for the Indian market. The Edge 20 Pro in Europe starts at Euro 699 for the 12GB/256GB variant. Given Motorola's aggressive pricing strategy, we won't be surprised if the company positions this as an alternative to the popular OnePlus 9R and iQOO 7 Legend.
