The first smartphone in the world to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip is now also the most affordable phone to use that flagship Qualcomm chip! The Motorola Edge 30 Pro has launched globally, including India, and is right now the best conventional phone Motorola sells. It succeeds last year's Motorola Edge 20 Pro with some substantial upgrades made to a few key areas; notably the performance and the cameras.

Before we head into the features, here is what it costs. The Motorola Edge 30 Pro comes in only a single variant, having 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. India will get the Cosmos Blue and Stardust White colour variants and will have to pay Rs. 49,999. As part of the bank offer, buyers will get a flat Rs. 5000 instant discount on Flipkart and Rs. 5000 cashback on retail stores. This is applicable on SBI credit cards. The brings the price down to Rs. 44,999. The phone will go on sale starting March 4, 2022 and will be available via Flipkart and other retail stores.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro features at a glance

As the rumours suggested, the Motorola Edge 30 Pro is largely based on the Motorola Edge X30 launched in China last November. The star of the show is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, which is currently fastest chipset that Android phones can use. We have already seen this chipset on the Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, iQOO 9 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S22 series.

This chipset is accompanied by 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The phone will boot Android 12 out of the box and the new Motorola MyUX skin resembles the Material You theme of the Pixel 6 series. Hence, you are getting almost the Google Pixel experience out of the box.

The phone itself looks similar to the recently launched Moto G series devices, but with tasteful design elements. The Edge 30 Pro features a 2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 on the front with anti-fingerprint coating, and Gorilla Glass 5 on the back. The frame is made of plastic, not metal. Motorola says the phone has a IP52 certification for water and dust resistance, which means it can survive splashes of water.

Another flagship feature on the Edge 30 Pro is its display. Motorola is using a 6.7-inches 10-bit pOLED display with a refresh rate of 144Hz. The display has DCI-P3 colour gamut support, and is certified by SGS Blue-Eye. The resolution stands at FHD+ (2400 x 1080), and the aspect ratio is at 20:9. It supports HDR10+ and Amazon HDR playback, but no Dolby Vision. This is accompanied by a pair of stereo speakers tuned by Dolby Atmos and Snapdragon Sound. The fingerprint sensor sits on the power key, not under the display.

The battery capacity is rated at 4800mAh and Motorola is offering its fastest 68W wired charging solution. You also get 15W wireless charging and 5W wireless power sharing.

Lastly, the cameras. The Edge 30 Pro gets a 50MP main camera with f/1.8 lens and gets OIS for stability. This is accompanied by another 50MP ultra-wide camera with 114-degrees FOV and no OIS. This camera can also shoot macro photos. The third camera is a 2MP depth sensor. The front camera is using a 60MP sensor with f/2.2 lens. The phone can record up to 8K videos at 24 fps, and do the regular 4K at 60 fps shooting as well. It also supports Audio Zoom feature, RAW output, and gets Google lens integration.
