Motorola to launch Edge S with new Snapdragon 870 SoC on Jan 26
Motorola’s Edge S will be one of the first handsets in the world to run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor.
Motorola on late Tuesday announced it will launch a new Edge S with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 870 processor on January 26.
Snapdragon 870 5G is considered to be an upgrade over the last year's Snapdragon 865 SoC. The latest processor comes with Qualcomm Kyro 585 CPU prime core with a clock speed of 3.2GHz, slightly better than Snapdragon 865 Plus' 3.1GHz. The new chip also comes with Snapdragon Elite gaming experiences as well as Adreno 650 GPU.
Snapdragon 870 also brings support 1440p class panels at up to 144Hz (or 4K at 60 Hz) along with HDR10+. It also features Spectra 480 ISP, which is the same the Snapdragon 865+. It comes with support for sensors up to 200 MP, 8K video capture at 30 fps (and 4K at 120 fps) along with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.
The processor also houses support for global 5G-sub 6Ghz and mmWave support with Snapdragon X55 modem.
As far as Motorola's Edge S goes, the smartphone has already leaked multiple times. The smartphone will reportedly come with a 6.7-inch full HD+ display with 105Hz refresh rate. The phone will have a 64-megapixel primary sensor on the back.
According to leaked renders, Motorola Edge S has a quad-rear camera setup on the back and side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The phone is said to come in two memory variants of 8GB+128GB and 12GB+256GB.
We're likely to find out more about the Edge S in coming days. Apart from Motorola, the likes of iQoo, Oppo and Xiaomi have also confirmed plans to launch phones with the new Snapdragon 870 processor.
