Xiaomi’s first under-screen camera phone could be a new Mi 10 Ultra variant
Xiaomi’s upcoming phone with under-screen camera technology is expected to launch sooner than expected. The phone has also made an early appearance in a leaked hands-on clip.
Xiaomi has long been working on a revolutionary under-screen camera phone. Last month, the company even demonstrated how the technology works. Now, a new leak reveals the first commercial Xiaomi phone which may launch with the new camera-display technology.
According to the leak, the phone could launch between October and November. The leak also gives a live hands-on video of the upcoming Xiaomi phone, which seems to be the recently launched Mi 10 Ultra. The hands-on video also does a side-by-side comparison of the new phone and Mi 10 Ultra.
That said, Xiaomi may be only the second company in the world to offer a commercial phone with an under-display camera phone. Last month, ZTE launched Axon 20 5G with a 32-megapixel under-display selfie camera.
Last month, Xiaomi in a blog post confirmed that the under-screen camera technology comes with improved full-screen effect through self- developed pixel arrangement. Xiaomi claims the third generation of its technology paves the way for mass production of the modules. It also underscored that its new under-display camera technology had shown the same results as conventional front-facing cameras.

Xiaomi said the technology will be available to mass market next year.
“Based on the brand-new pixel arrangement solution, Xiaomi's 3rd Generation Under-Display Camera also adopts a special circuit design to hide more components under the RGB sub-pixels to further increase the light transmittance of the under-screen camera area. Combined with Xiaomi`s self-developed optimization algorithm, the new under-display camera offers a fully updated photography experience, matching the imaging performance of conventional front cameras,” Xiaomi explained in a post.
