Oppo Reno 4 Pro first impressions: One of the best-looking phones so far

Compared to older Reno phones, the new phone in India is pleasantly a subtler version in the series. Here's our initial thoughts on the Reno 4 Pro.

Oppo's Reno series is known for its flamboyant design and features. From unique shark fin camera module to 10x camera zoom, Oppo's Reno series has succeeded in being different from the rest, if not better. The latest-gen Reno 4 Pro, however, appears to be a more balanced offering with a punch-hole and curved display, four rear cameras and a mid-range chipset.

Compared to older Reno phones, the new phone in India is pleasantly a subtler version in the series. The Reno 4 Glow edition which comes in glossy blue and red colours is not coming to India, at least for now. There is nothing wrong with how the Reno 4 Pro looks. If we may take the liberty, we believe Reno 4 Pro is one of the best-looking phones of this year, thus far.

One of the first things we noticed about the phone is how incredibly light it feels. Despite a large 6.5-inch display, more or less the new display size standard, it feels good to hold and carry around. Another major respite the phone gives is the matte finish on the back. This makes the phone anti-slippery and avoids fingerprint smudges too. This elevates the simple experience of just holding the phone and using it.

Not sure which
mobile to buy?

The quad-camera setup on the back is difficult to overlook. The larger black sensor shells catch your eyes whenever you look at the phone. Since the phone is slim, it has very thin buttons on the side. It even comes with a headphone jack so that's a bonus.

On the Oppo Reno 4 Pro, you get a full HD+ curved AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate. This refresh rate is becoming pretty standard even in mid-range but the experience always speaks. The display looks pretty good and once we switched to 90Hz there was no going back.

The Reno 4 Pro runs ColorOS based on Android 10. Oppo has been improving its custom OS and has removed most of the clutter. The phone also has many pre-loaded Google apps as we see on most phones. But it even has the Google One app. It also came preloaded with some banned apps like TikTok and Helo. An update has been rolled out to remove those apps. Also, Oppo confirmed these apps won't be there on the retail units.

During our brief usage, we didn't face any issues while checking out the phone. A detailed review will give a better understanding of the phone's performance. The phone's primary sensor is a 48-megapixel camera which is easily available on lower mid-range phones. For selfies, it has a 32-megapixel camera which even with all beautifications turned off, will still make you look like you have the most flawless skin ever.

Overall, the phone's aesthetics is on point. It is only the performance bit that we'll get on later in the review. Oppo's Reno series has always catered to the affordable premium segment, but the Reno 4 Pro's specs seem underwhelming for this price range. But more on that in our detailed review, so stay tuned.
