Microsoft brings its new Office app to iPad

Microsoft's new Office app for iOS has been updated to version 2.46. This version of the app features support for iPadOS.

Microsoft had released a unified app for Office, which combined PowerPoint, Word, Excel and OneNote in a single app, on iPhones back in February last year. Now, nearly a year later, the company is bringing the same experience to the iPad.

Microsoft's new Office app for iOS has been updated to version 2.46. This version of the app features support for iPadOS.

“Office is now available on iPad: We're combining the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps you know into a single, iPadOS-optimized app. Plus, you'll see additional tools to keep you more productive than ever,” the app description on the App Store says.

Notably, while the app was also available on iPad, it ran in a windowed mode. Now, the app will run in a fully customised mode. In addition to that, users will be able to create and sign PDFs, and transform pictures into documents. They will also be able to tap and share in the phone gallery outside the Office app to get to perform several actions such as create a PPT, and create a PDF among other things. In addition to that, users will also be able to convert screenshots to PDF or PPT files.

It is worth noting that while Microsoft has rolled out the new Office app on iPad, the standalone apps for Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel are still available on the App Store and they will be updated regularly.
