HMD Global is expected to launch a new smartphone dubbed 'Nokia X' or 'Nokia X6' as early as May 16 in China. The company has confirmed the launch date for its new smartphone on Chinese blogging site, Weibo. Interestingly, OnePlus 6 will also launch the same day in London.

With the Nokia X, HMD Global could be the next company to embrace the notch popularised by Apple's iPhone X. In leaked images, the alleged Nokia X is seen with an edge-to-edge display and a notch on top. The images reveal the smartphone on a display counter along with its promotional poster.

Here, the Nokia X's front panel has an edge-to-edge display with thin bezels on top and bottom. There's the trending notch on top housing the camera lens and earpiece. At the bottom we can see the Nokia branding.

At the rear, Nokia X has a glass back with a dual-camera setup aligned vertically as seen on other Nokia smartphones. The fingerprint sensor is placed just below the camera which is understandable considering the full display up front. While the leaked images look quite convincing, it's best to not assume anything now until the company confirms the genuineness of the pictures.

The leaks have fuelled a buzz that Nokia X is expected to launch in two variants of 4GB RAM plus 64GB storage and 6GB RAM plus 128GB storage. The base variant is speculated to be priced at CNY 1,599 ( 16,800 approximately) while the top model could retail at CNY 1,799 ( 18,900 approximately).

In terms of specifications, Nokia X is expected to feature a 5.8-inch full HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone could be powered by either MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core processor or Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor.

The dual-camera setup at the rear is said to be a pair of 12-megapixel sensors with Carl ZEISS lens. On the software front, it will possibly run stock Android 8.1 Oreo.
