TikTok looks to have beaten Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in the rating game. This is despite the fact that these US-based apps are some of the most popular social media platforms in the world. For instance, Facebook had 1.88 billion daily active users in the first quarter of the year, while its family of apps, which includes Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp had a whopping 2.72 billion daily active users during the same period, which the company said was an increase of 15% year-on-year. Similarly, Twitter reported having 206 million monetizable daily active users in the second quarter of 2021, which marked a 15% increase year-on-year. Snapchat, on the other hand, reported having 292 mn daily active users, which the company said was an increase of 23% year-on-year. Now, you would expect these widely popular apps to be some of the most highly-rated apps on the Google Play Store. As it turns out, they are not.

Noted tipster Evan Blass pointed out that Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are not rated very high on Google Play Store. While Facebook is rated 2.3 (lowest of the bunch), Instagram is rated 3.8 and Twitter is rated 3.4 on the Play Store. Snapchat, on the other hand, got rave reviews. It is rated 4.3 on the Play Store. What is more, ByteDance's short-video sharing platform TikTok received a rating of 4.3.

Did this trend replicate itself on Apple's App Store? Not exactly. Instagram is one of the highest rated apps on the App Store, while Snapchat is towards the lower side of the spectrum. Facebook is rated 3.2 while Instagram is rated 4.7 on the App Store. Similarly, Twitter and TikTok are rated 4.6 and 4.8 respectively while Snapchat is rated 3.6 on the App Store.

This comes shortly after TikTok became the first non-Facebook mobile app to reach 3 billion downloads globally as per a Sensor Tower report, which includes both Google Play Store and Apple App Store numbers. “TikTok's adoption has also accelerated in 2021, as first-time downloads climbed 2 percent Q/Q to 177.5 million in Q1 2021, and surged 16 percent Q/Q to 205.4 million Q2 2021, the most growth the app has seen since its record-breaking Q1 2020 when it accumulated more than 315 million installs, the most any app has seen in a single quarter,” Sensor Tower wrote in its report.
