The Apple Watch has always acted as a saviour for so many people across the world, and every time, it is its SOS services that have come in handy. Hence, Apple went all in on the SOS message features with the current generation of iPhone 14 series and the Apple Watch models. The watch, however, continues to be the core way of helping people in emergencies and there is another recent example from India, wherein the Apple Watch helped save the life of a 17-year old boy in Lonavala.

Smit Mehta, a 17-year old boy from Pune, Maharashtra, says that his life was saved by the Apple Watch Series 7 on his wrist. Mehta had gone on a trip to Lonavala back in July and on his way back, he slipped and fallen into a valley during a heavy downpour. “I fell on a tree and got stuck to the stone. I was almost on the edge of the valley," said the 17-year-old teen in a report published by the Indian Express. Mehta had survived the fall from a tremendous height but suffered a broken ankle along with some minor injuries.

After he gained back his consciousness, Mehta did not have access to his iPhone and hence, relies on his Apple Watch to call for help. The Watch Series 7 helped call his parents, who in turn reached out to the emergency services for rescue. Mehta was eventually pulled out of danger with the help of a few hikers.

The boy had eventually undergone surgery in Mumbai and was discharged in August. The boy also took the opportunity to narrate the incident to Apple's CEO Tim Cook via an email. Cook went through the mail and came up with a reply, saying, “I am delighted you are on the road to recovery."

The Apple Watch Series 7 was launched in late 2021 and introduced a new display design that reduced the bezel to a minimum. Additionally, the Series 7 also got features such as ECG, Blood Oxygen saturation monitoring, heart rate monitoring, sleep and more.
