Windows 11 download JOY for old PC owners! Here is what this company is doing
Windows 11 download: Older PCs may be able to bypass the Microsoft PC requirements and get Microsoft Windows 11 update, thanks to Asus, according to a new report.
Windows 11 download: Microsoft is set to release its upcoming Windows 11 update on October 5, bringing some of the biggest changes to the world's most popular desktop operating system. However, old computers will not be able to update – only computers that match Microsoft's strict specifications requirements will be able to install the Microsoft Windows 11 update, according to the company. However, a new report brings much joy to old computer owners who also want to install the Windows 11 update. Now, Asus is testing the ability to update some of its older laptops to Windows 11. Significantly, they will be able to carry out a successful Windows 11 download even if their old computers do not match the support requirements set by Microsoft.
Microsoft had previously stated that when it came to support for Intel's processors, only 8th-Gen Intel Core and newer processors would be supported. Following a backlash, after it was revealed that some of the company's own Surface laptops would not be able to get the Windows 11 update, Microsoft updated the list of processors to include a very small list of high end 7th-Gen Intel Core processors. Now, Windows Latest reports that Asus has begun testing updates to its motherboard to extend support for Windows 11 on older models that do not run supported CPUs – even down to Skylake (6th-Gen) processors.

According to the report, Asus' updated support page states that the company is also pledging support for motherboards that work with older Intel processors including the 6th-Gen and 7th-Gen chips. While Asus has reportedly mentioned support for Windows 11 in the changelog for a BIOS update for one motherboard, the company's Z270 motherboards have also recently received a Windows 11 compatible BIOS update, and the CPUs supported by these motherboards are not part of Microsoft's official support list, the report claims.
This means that Asus could eventually support upgrades to Windows 11 for Skylake (6th-Gen) and Kaby Lake (7th-Gen) processors on motherboards like the Strix Z270G Gaming motherboard and the Maximus IX Formula. Whether these devices actually get the Windows 11 update or not, depends on a combination of factors including support from Microsoft for older devices, Asus adding further support for older processors as well. It remains to be seen whether these devices will receive further updates via Windows Update, even if they gain the ability to update to Windows 11 when it is publicly available on October 5.
