All the new things coming to your iPhone with the iOS 14.4 update
The iOS 14.4 brings in some new features including one that makes it easier to handoff music to the HomePod mini.
Apple’s iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 has already started rolling out to testers and developers. The iOS 14.4 update can be accessed at the Apple Developer Center. Among some of the newer little additions the new update brings in, one of the features makes it easier to use the HomePod mini with your iPhone. This feature for the HomePod mini utilises the speaker’s U1 chip.
Post the update, when an iPhone that has a U1 chip, that’s iPhone 11 and above), comes near the HomePod mini, there is going to be a soft haptic rhythm that’s going to start on the iPhone and will get progressively faster the closer you get to the HomePod mini. When you are close enough, a UI will pop up that allows you to transfer songs to the HomePod mini making handoffs easier and better.
The new iOS 14.4 also gets in some new features on the Apple Watch like “Time to Walk” and “Add Newest Workouts to Watch”. There is not much information available about these features yet, but according to the instructions provided by Apple - "Time to Walk Workouts are downloaded when Apple Watch is connected to power and near your iPhone. Completed workouts are deleted automatically”.
Apple is also taking audio level measurements more seriously with the new update. Whenever a Bluetooth device is going to be connected, a new feature is going to ask you to specify exactly what kind of device it is - like a car stereo, hearing aid, headphones etc. Depending on the option you choose, you will be sent alerts if the music you are listening to is too loud and can impact your hearing.
Apple may also add notes that will warn users if they replace or repair the camera of the iPhone with aftermarket components. Warnings like “Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple camera” may pop up if duplicate camera components are used. This feature will be available on the new iPhone 12 series phones.
Also, iPhones will be able to scan smaller QR codes better with the iOS 14.4 update. Apple will also be fixing the issues with Fitness widget, HDR photos, language settings on keyboard and others.
There is no information about when iOS 14.4 is going to release yet.
