Apple iPhone 12 mini vs iPhone SE (2020): Specs, price and other differences
Apple iPhone 12 mini vs iPhone SE: We compared iPhone 12 mini with another compact iPhone that launched earlier this year, iPhone SE (2nd generation) based on their specifications and prices.
Apple has finally lifted the lid on its iPhone 12 series. With as many as four models, the firm is trying to get more customers onboard as it caters to different price segments. While the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro models were given a lot of focus, the most attractive element was the Apple iPhone 12 mini.
It is the company’s most compact device till date but is not a successor to iPhone 11. So, we compared the device with another compact iPhone that launched earlier this year, iPhone SE (2nd generation) based on their specifications and prices.
The iPhone SE comes in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage variants that are priced at ₹39,900, ₹44,900 and ₹54,900 respectively. The iPhone 12 mini also comes in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage capacities but at a higher price tags of ₹69,900, ₹74,900 and ₹84,900 respectively.
As for the colours, the new iPhone 12 mini can be purchased in White, Black, Blue, Green and Product Red whereas the iPhone SE comes in just three colours – Black, Product Red and White.
The iPhone SE has the older-generation design, something we last saw with iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. It has rounded corners with huge bezels on top and bottom of the screen. There’s a circular TouchID scanner at the chin as well. The new iPhone 12 mini, however, brings back the iPhone 5 and 5S design with flat bezels and is in line with the design of the entire iPhone 12 series. There’s no circular TouchID as it has edge-to-edge screen.
The iPhone 12 mini has a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with 2340x1080 resolution. The iPhone SE comes with a 4.7-inch Retina HD LCD display with a lower 1334x750 resolution and bezels on top and bottom.
Powering the iPhone 12 mini is the latest A14 Bionic chipset with improved neural engine. However, the iPhone SE is powered by A13 Bionic with third-generation neural engine.
iPhone 12 mini has a clear lead in the camera department as it has dual 12-megapixel wide and ultra-wide sensors with f/1.6 and f/2.4 aperture, Night Mode, Deep Fusion and 2x optical zoom. The iPhone SE has just a single 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor with f/1.8 aperture. It misses out on Night Mode, Deep Fusion and 2x optical zoom.
With iPhone 12 mini you get a 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera with f/2.2 aperture, 4K, Dolby Vision and HDR video recording along with Night Mode, Deep Fusion and Animoji/Memoji. In iPhone SE there’s a 7-megapixel FaceTime camera. There’s no 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision video recording, no Night mode, Deep Fusion and Animoji/Memoji.
The new iPhone 12 mini supports MagSafe wireless charging and has a video playback time of up to 15 hours. The iPhone SE does not include MagSafe charging tech and can go for up to 13 hours when it comes to video playback. Both support Qi charging.
