Apple may delay the launch of its new iPhone series by at least two months, says a new report from Cowen.

According to the report, Apple will launch the iPhone 12 series in November instead of its traditional mid-September timeline. It is not the first time reports of Apple delaying the launch of iPhone 12 have surfaced. The older reports, however, indicated delay of at least one month.

Apple, like other smartphone companies, has been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic. The company reported a growth in revenues in the March quarter but suffered a drop in profits. While its services vertical grew, iPhone sales have declined.

The Cowen report estimates Apple will produce 35 million units of iPhones in the second quarter, which is said to be at least 13% lower than the same period last year.

“We note that the latest generation of iPhones, including the recently launched 2nd generation iPhone SE, is expected to comprise ~77% of the overall C2Q build mix similar to C1Q. The preliminary outlook for C3Q builds is around 46M units (+31% Q/Q, -2% Y/Y) and compares to the prior low-40M view and our sell-in forecast of 40M. We think a 40M+ shipment in C3Q would be a positive for sentiment in AAPL shares,” it said.

According to the report, Apple will ship 8 million units of its new iPhone SE in the coming quarter. It further predicts Apple is on track to ship about 25 million units of the iPhone SE second-gen this year.

Apple is rumoured to launch as many as four models under its new iPhone 12 series. The lineup will include one 5.4-inch model, two 6.1-inch models, and one 6.7-inch model. Apple is also expected to embrace 5G as well this year.
