Apple’s iPhone 13 series are scheduled to launch in September this year, and unlike last year, the company should be able to stick to the timeline that got derailed in 2020 due to the pandemic. Of course, there are more than enough rumours doing the rounds about the upcoming iPhone 13 series already and while many of them might not eventually turn out to be right, they do help create an idea about what we can expect in September.

According to reports, we know that Apple is going to shrink the notch on the iPhone 13 series, and adding to that a leak spotted last month gave us a look at the screen protector for the upcoming devices. Now, a DigiTimes report states that Apple is “looking to source 40-50% smaller VCSEL chips” that are used for 3D mapping face scans for the iPhones coming out this year.

The report also mentions that the smaller chip size will play a role in shrinking the size of the notch. This same, smaller, image processing chip is also expected to be used in future iPads with FaceID. And with a smaller notch, Apple will also look to move up the speaker grille near the top of the bezel, reports GSMArena.

Other rumours about the iPhone 13 series have indicated thicker and larger camera cutouts, dual cameras on the front, LTPO AMOLED displays with 120Hz refresh rate on the Pro variants of the iPhone 13, and also updated cameras along with the Apple A15 Bionic chip.
