Apple to begin iPhone 13 production in India soon

Apple is all set to start manufacturing its flagship smartphone iPhone 13 in India soon. However, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro max will continue to be manufactured at its Chinese facilities.

Apple is likely to begin the manufacture of almost all its top-selling smartphone models including in the country soon. Going by the reports, the tech giant has already begun trial production of the devices in its Indian facilities. A report by Economic Times has shared that the US-based tech company has started the trial production of its flagship iPhone 13. The tech giant will manufacture the iPhone 13 in its Foxconn plant near Chennai, India. As the trial production has already started, the commercial production of the smartphone for both domestic markets and for exports is also likely to begin soon.

iPhone 13 production in India will increase their supply into global markets

Apple has planned its expansion in India as it has secured the supply of semiconductor chips, which are in short supply across the world. Commencing manufacturing of iPhone 13 in India would help the company to increase their supply into global markets as 20 to 30 per cent of iPhones that are made in India are usually exported.

The industry executives have highlighted that supplies of best-selling iPhone models have improved as it has eased an acute shortage of supply in the Indian market

As of now, Apple only plans to make the iPhone 13 here, whereas the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max will continue to be made at its Chinese facilities.

Earlier, Apple has manufactured its iPhone 11, 12, XR and SE in India at the Bengaluru-based Wistron plant. As a matter of fact, Apple produces almost 70% of the smartphones it sells in India within the country.

Market tracker IDC India's research director Navkendar Singh has shared that the company has been locally manufacturing a new iPhone model within 3-4 months of its launch in the country. The iPhone 13 was launched in the country in end-September, in the first phase of its global rollout.

Despite its availability shortage, Apple has witnessed a sharp rise in sales during the Covid-19 pandemic as many consumers bought iPhones or iPad tablets or Mac computers due to work and study from home. It is being expected that iPhone sales in the year 2021 are expected to be 4-5 million units, up from 3 million units in 2020.

Apple India's operations revenue has increased by a five year high of 68 per cent in 2020-21 to 22,845 crore while net profit is surged by 32 per cent at 1,226 crore.
