2022 saw the advent of faster charging standards! There was the 80W solution from Oppo, 120W from Xiaomi and iQOO, and 150W solution from Realme — all of them aiming to fully charge a big battery in less than 30 minutes. Now Vivo is looking to trump them all with a new 200W charging solution. Based on the newest rumours, its is said that Vivo is working on a new flagship phone that will feature a 200W wired fast charging solution. No other details have emerged on this yet but the technology is in the works.

Based on a tip from Digital Chat Station, the popular tipster, it is said that the Vivo is has moved to a new charging adapter tech that can support 20V charging, which means it can deliver up to 200W of fast charging. Initially, Vivo was only looking go up to 100W of charging . The new charger will be compatible with the older 120W, 80W, and 60W charging solution.

Vivo 200W charging coming soon

Sadly, here's no information on how fast of a charging experience will this technology translate to. Having a super fast charging adapter is one aspect, developing a battery technology that can handle such speeds is something else. Most smartphone companies currently use split batteries that can at most fill up the battery in 20 minutes. These speeds are dependent on factors such as temperatures, and the status of the phone.

Currently, the highest rated charging tech comes from Realme — the 150W solution on the Realme GT Neo 3. Realme promises a 50 percent charge in 5 minutes, although in reality, the phone slowed down the charging when the ambient temperature was hot, and also when the device itself overheated. iQOO and Xiaomi's 120W chargers are equally fast, both able to charge the battery within 30 minutes.

When will this tech hit the market? We have no idea at the moment. The company just released its flagship Vivo X80 series in global markets, including India. The Vivo X80 and Vivo X80 Pro feature the 80W charging solution, with the latter even supporting wireless charging. Vivo's X80 series is all about the camera performance, with theVivo X80 Pro having the most advanced camera system from Vivo. The Vivo X80 debuted the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chip whereas the Vivo X80 Pro used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip.
