Galaxy Note 20 Ultra to skip Samsung’s new 108-megapixel camera sensor

Instead, Samsung’s upgraded 108-megapixel ISOCELL Bright HM2 sensor will arrive on a Xiaomi phone, says a new report.

In the megapixels war, Samsung is commanding the race. Its 48-megapixel and 64-megapixel sensors have already swamped the mid-range segment. Samsung's 108-megapixel sensors have gotten off to a positive start as well. The company is now working on a 108-megapixel ISOCELL Bright HM1 sensor successor. Interestingly, the new sensor will not make its debut on a Samsung phone, but on a Xiaomi's.

According to a Sammobile, the ISOCELL Bright HM2 sensor will use the company's Nonacell technology. This will feature a combination of 0.8-micrometer pixels to create a bigger 2.4-micrometer pixels, the website added.

The report further pointed out that Samsung's new sensor will not be part of the Galaxy Note 20 series, which is expected to launch on August 5. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is rumoured to come with a 108-megapixel camera but the sensor will be the same as Galaxy S20 Ultra's.

With 108-megapixel cameras becoming a reality and mainstream, smartphone companies are scrambling to step up their camera game. Samsung, however, has an edge over the competition.
