Huawei’s flagship Mate 40 series reportedly delayed amid US sanctions

Huawei may launch its next-generation flagship smartphone series, Mate 40, next year.

Chinese handset giant Huawei has reportedly delayed the launch of its next-gen flagship phone series, Huawei Mate 40. According to leakster Evan Blass, Huawei will launch the flagship smartphone series next year. 

The current flagship series, Mate 30, had launched in September last year followed by a global rollout in the next couple of months. The Mate 40 was supposed to follow a similar roll-out roadmap.

The delay is likely because of the US sanctions on the Chinese handset company. Huawei will stop receiving support from Taiwanese TSMC. It will also lose access to OLED displays from the display majors like Samsung and LG. Huawei, however, claims it has stocked 10 million units of chips to ensure uninterrupted supply.

It also plans to use BOE displays to cater to the local demand, reports GSMArena. With the US sanctions in place, Huawei is unlikely to be able to sell its new products at large scale and outside China.

While component sourcing has become a big problem, Huawei has succeeded in solving the software problem. As you already know, Huawei has lost access to Google's Android, which is the most popular mobile OS in the world. 

Huawei is now focusing on its in-house HarmonyOS 2.0 which is said to be the new Android alternative. The software is likely to help Huawei end the dependence on Google for its Huawei and Honor phones. Huawei has also announced its OpenHarmony project to develop a robust ecosystem around it.
