The iPhone 13 Mini went on sale in India alongside the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max earlier this week. And while the device, that is, the iPhone 13 Mini brings incremental changes over its predecessor, that is, the Apple iPhone 12 Mini, there are some things that have remained unchanged. One of those changes is Apple limiting the peak charging speeds of the iPhone 13 Mini while using the company's MagSafe wireless charger. When Apple released the iPhone 12 Mini back in 2020, it had limited its peak charging power to 12W when using the MagSafe wireless charger. Other devices in the iPhone 12 series could benefit from MagSafe's faster 15W charging speeds. While Apple never explained the reason behind this limitation, it is believed that Apple restricted the peak charging power in iPhone 12 Mini owing to the thermal constraints with a smaller device.

Now, Apple, in a support document has confirmed that this year's iPhone 13 Mini suffers with the same limitations as its predecessor. This means that the iPhone 13 Mini, just like the iPhone 12 Mini, comes with the peak charging power capped at 12W.

Apple says that MagSafe charger intelligently adapts to conditions in order to optimise charging users' iPhone at up to 15W of peak power delivery for faster wireless charging. “For iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 12 mini, the MagSafe Charger delivers up to 12W of peak power delivery,” Apple wrote in its support document.

While lesser charging capabilities may seem like a critical limitation, iPhone 13 Mini's (and iPhone 12 Mini's) smaller battery capacity ensures that the phone charges faster than other iPhone 13 models, which includes the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. And if it is any consolation, the iPhone 13 Mini features a bigger battery compared to the iPhone 12 Mini. For reference, the iPhone 12 Mini offers up to 15 hours of video playback time and up to 50 hours of audio playback time, while the iPhone 13 Mini offers up to 17 hours of video playback time and up to 55 hours of audio playback time.
