Xiaomi has started rolling out a new update for Mi A3 users. The latest update brings January 2021 security patch, new features, and more. The update comes after Xiaomi's brief debacle with the Mi A3 updates as one of them caused the phones to brick.

According to Gizmochina, Mi A3's latest update has build number V12.0.4.0.RFQMIXM (global variant). Roughly 329MB in size, it's available through OTA. The report says the update is being rolled out in batches. To check if you have received the update, go to Settings on your phone. Tap on System > Advanced > System update.

Interestingly, Xiaomi has rolled YouTube Music, but as the system app. This means users cannot uninstall the app from their phones.

A quick recap of the brick issue: Xiaomi had rolled out Android 11 update for Mi A3 earlier this month. The update, however, led to bricking of the Mi A3 units for some customers. After a backlash, Xiaomi not only halted the update but also offered free repairs to affected users.

"We are aware of the issue on some Mi A3 devices following a recent Android 11 update. We have since halted the rollout. We kindly request users who experience this issue to visit any of the 2,000 plus service centers across the country nearer to you wherein a solution will be provided for free unconditionally (within or beyond warranty). We regret the inconvenience this has brought about. As a brand committed to offering the best possible user experience, we will continuously improve our products and services," Xiaomi had said in a statement.
