Realme GT 2 Fold renders OUT! Cover display folds out in opposite direction
Realme GT 2 Fold. Yeah, Realme has just released renders of its idea of a folding smartphone by that name, and it looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G. However, for the sake of breathing in some difference, this Realme foldable has a hinge that opens the display in an opposite direction to the likes of Samsung and Huawei foldables.
Revealed by the Realme Design Studio, the Realme GT 2 Fold concept shows how Realme's first folding smartphone could look like. At first glace, it resembles the 2020 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, complete with its camera cutouts on both the displays. Since these are sketches, there's not much in terms of material fit and finish we could decipher.
Realme GT 2 Fold design revealed
However, pay attention and you can see a different layout. The cover display on the phone has been essentially mounted at the back, while the natural “front” has got the cameras.
With a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Z Fold 3, the display opens up to the left and reveals the main display that stays folded inside. Realme has done the opposite. The Realme GT 2 Fold's cover display seems to open to the right.
We can only comment on this layout once Realme builds a working prototype. Until then, it seems that users on Samsung's foldables will need to simply re-memorize their “unfolding action” while using this one.
While the other display is said to measure 6.5-inches, the inner display will have an 8-inch AMOLED flexible display. That is bigger than the 7.6-inch display on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G.
The rest of the phone seems like a regular folding phone. There are two volume keys and a power key visible on the edges, while the hinge dominates the other side. This concept has a single camera on the cover display and another single camera cutout on the main display. It seems that Realme is not going for the under display camera tech on its first-gen folding smartphone.
Realme also flaunts a dual 50MP camera setup on the rear, which is most likely to have wide and ultra-wide lenses, In comparison, Samsung's foldables have always offers a third telephoto camera as standard.
Will the Realme GT 2 Fold be a reality? Doesn't seem so, as Realme CEO Madhav Sheth has repeatedly said that they want to focus quicker charging speeds and faster chipsets. Hence, this might be a concept for now and Realme could take its own sweet time to prepare a folding phone once the flexible display industry matures.
