Samsung has launched a new rugged version of its Galaxy S20 smartphone. Dubbed as Samsung Galaxy S20 Tactical Edition (TE), the phone is meant for the US' government and Department of Defense (DoD). The phone comes with a range of customised software and features allowing it to be used with different peripherals.
It also has dualDar architecture which brings two layers of data encryption based on the US' NSA security standards.
“Galaxy S20 TE offers federal program managers and executive officers an easy to manage and deploy mobile solution that works with a broad range of technologies and is backed by the assurance of the defense-grade Samsung Knox mobility platform. It harnesses the most sought after tools of Samsung's premium Galaxy devices in a unique, easy-to-use configuration,” said the company in a post.
Samsung Galaxy S20 TE supports multi-ethernet capabilities as well as network support for private SIM, 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and CBRS. It also has a night-vision mode. There's a stealth mode which allows users to disable LTE and mute all RF broadcasting.

The phone runs on 64-bit Octa-Core processor and supports mission applications in the field (ATAK, APASS, KILSWITCH, BATDOK). Galaxy S20 TE also features Samsung DeX software, which brings a PC-like experience when connected to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
“DualDAR architecture further secures the device with two layers of encryption, even when the device is in a powered off or unauthenticated state. This multi-layer, embedded defense system helps Galaxy S20 TE meet the most stringent regulated industry requirements, including NSA's Commercial Solutions for Classified (CSFC) Component's List, and Mobile Device Fundamental Protection Profile (MDF PP) as laid out by the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP),” added Samsung.
Samsung Galaxy 20 TE will be available in the third quarter of this year. The phone will be available through IT channel partners.
Galaxy S20 TE has a 6.2-inch WQHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2.0 display with 3200 x 1440 Resolution with up to 120Hz refresh screen. It runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor coupled with 12GB of RAM and 128GB storage. It supports microSD card to add expandable storage up to 512GB storage.
Galaxy S20 TE has 12-megapixel, 64-megapixel, and 12-megapixel camera sensors on the back. On the front, it houses a 10-megapixel camera.
Other features include Android 10-based OneUI 2, 4,000mAh battery, wireless charging, and 8K video recording at 24fps.
