Decade-old iPhone 4 achieves this big photography feat
Photographer Lucas Omar's shot taken from the ten-year-old iPhone 4 grabbed the first spot in the “People” category.
Apple's iPhones have always been known for its great cameras. This spoke true for Apple's iPhone 4 as one of the winning shots from the 2020 iPhone Photography Awards (IPPA) was taken from this ten-year-old iPhone.
This old gem managed to take on the latest iPhones with a shot taken by Omar Lucas. The photo was awarded first place in the “People” category of the iPhone Photography Awards. Lucas' winning photo features native people from Ayacucho, Peru. Omar Lucas who hails from Peru is a documentary photographer and his work involves topics such as human rights, environment and identity.
Lucas shot the photo with an iPhone 4 which Apple launched back in June, 2010. In terms of specs, the iPhone 4 has a 5-megapixel rear camera with HD video recording and LED flash. It sports a 0.3-megapixel front camera for selfies. If we compare it to any smartphone right now the iPhone 4 is way behind in almost every aspect.
The IPPA is not to be confused with Apple's Shot on iPhone competition. In fact, the IPPA takes place without any participation from Apple as a brand. There's a total of 18 categories and three winners are picked for each category. The grand prize winner of this year's IPPA is UK-based Dimpy Bhalotia for her photo of three boys jumping into the Ganges River. The photo titled ‘Flying Boys' was taken with an iPhone XS.
There's actually a variety of iPhones featured in the awards list. Some of these include the iPhone 6, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6 Plus as well.
