Snapdragon 888 beaten by Exynos 2100 in Samsung flagship battery test
Samsung's Exynos 2011 chip does what the Exynos 990 could never hope to achieve, with better battery performance over its Snapdragon counterpart.
After a couple of years of living in the shadow of its Snapdragon counterpart, Samsung's Exynos chipset finally looks like it will compete with Qualcomm's latest flagship processor on the same playing field. A couple of days ago, there were reports that the Snapdragon 888 might boast better battery life as its cores were underclocked compared to the Exynos 2100, but a new video on YouTube now pegs the Exynos 2100 as the winner in the battery department.
Some might scoff at the thought of relying on a YouTube video to decide whether a device performs better than another device in a specific department. However, this four-and-a-half minute video by PBKReviews does put two Galaxy S21 Ultra devices, one with a Snapdragon 888 and the Exynos 2100, to the test via a series of performance oriented tests.
In order to level the playing field, the reviewer charged both devices to 100 percent, then set both screens set to 100 percent brightness, with adaptive brightness off and a white background to see how much the battery would drain. After about 10 minutes in, the Snapdragon device was at 31.7 degrees while the Exynos device was at 32.2 degrees - both devices were at 97 percent.

They then used a “generic battery drain app” to put the CPUs through heavy loads to see how the battery drained. After 8 minutes in, the Snapdragon started to dim down the screen as it got hotter at 46.3 degrees and while the Exynos began dimming later on at 44.9 degrees. The video then resumed using the battery drain app.Eight minutes and 17 seconds later, the Snapdragon was at 87 percent 49.8 degrees, while the Exynos 2100 was at 89 percent 46.6 degrees .

While this two percent difference might sound small to many, it definitely could have widened if the test continued for longer. Also, Samsung's Exynos, which is clearly the underdog after last years extremely disappointing Exynos 990 chipset, has clearly made some monumental progress in their chipset department. It remains to be seen whether Samsung can widen the gap with its upcoming chipsets with AMD GPUs - we migth find out later this year.
