WhatsApp group admins to get more power! Know what is to come
Meta owned messaging app is testing a new feature that may allow group admins to delete a message sent by other group members.
Meta owned WhatsApp has been introducing a new feature to give its users a better experience. The instant messaging app is now reportedly working on a new feature that may give more control to the group admins of the chat groups. The WhatsApp beta update 126.96.36.199 is likely to allow group admins to delete messages of group members.
A WhatsApp updates tracker WABetaInfo has shared that the admins will soon be able to delete messages even if they are sent by members and once done, users will see the text, “This was removed by an admin.” Though this feature is yet to be available for the public, the portal has shared a screenshot of what the new feature looks like.
They have further mentioned that this feature is not available yet as it's under development and there isn't a known release date for the activation. WhatsApp is working on it to ensure the best bug-free experience for users.
WhatsApp to give more power to group admins
This feature will be a major shift on the instant messaging platform following the launch of ephemeral messages last year. It also means that WhatsApp group admins will be allowed to act as moderators aside from possessing the power to remove members from the group.
Moreover, the group admin will also be allowed to restrict all the members in the group from sending text messages or sharing pictures, videos, documents, GIFs etc. According to WABetInfo, WhatsApp has already submitted the ‘Restricted Groups' setting via Google Play Programme for version 2.17.430.
The new feature can only be activated by the group admins, and once restricted, other members will only be able to see the admin's message. The group members will have to use the ‘Message Admin' tab to message or share a file on the group and other members will be able to see the message only after admin's approval.
The move seems to be aimed at giving more power to group admins so that they can control the flow of content in their groups. This feature will also help admins to ensure that the group members follow decorum in the group.
