The Apple AirTag has been surrounded by controversy ever since its launch in early 2021. One of the biggest concerns was the privacy factor, which could allow stalkers to simply drop an AirTag into someone bag and track their location. Apple now has a solution to help such victims who are using an Android phone; an app to help you track and locate “creepy” AirTag trackers on you.

The app is called Tracker Detect and can be installed from the Google Play store. “If you think someone is using AirTag or another device to track your location, you can scan to try to find it,” says the App on the store listing. The app is free to download for all Android users. Note that the app does not allow you to setup an AirTag or configure it to your liking.

“AirTag provides industry leading privacy and security features and today we are extending new capabilities to Android devices. Tracker Detect gives Android users the ability to scan for an AirTag or supported Find My enabled item trackers that might be traveling with them without their knowledge. We are raising the bar on privacy for our users and the industry, and hope others will follow," says Apple in a statement to the media.

Once you download the Tracker Detector app, there's not much you have to do. You can open the app and start scanning for any AirTag trackers around you. If the app detects an AirTag tracker that is away from its owner, it will classify it as an Unknown AirTag. The app can even play a sound if its tracking in the background.

In the case of finding an unknown AirTag with your, the app will offer instructions to remove its battery, thereby preventing its ability to share the location. The app also asks Android users to contact law enforcers if an unknown AirTag put an individual's safety at risk.

The AirTag is currently selling at a price of 3,190 for a single tracker. A set of four AirTag trackers will set you back by 10,900.
