Apple’s battery replacement for MacBook Pro: Everything you need to know
Here’s how to check your eligibility for Apple’s new MacBook Pro battery replacement programme.
Apple has introduced a new battery replacement programme for its select non Touch Bar 13-inch MacBook Pro models. The company acknowledged that a "small" number of Macbook Pros, assembled between October 2016 and October 2017, come with battery-related issues.
The company on its website said that a component may fail which further causes the built-in battery on these models to swell. Apple highlights that this is not a safety issue and that the batteries will be replaced free of charge.
"Apple has determined that, in a limited number of 13-inch MacBook Pro (non Touch Bar) units, a component may fail causing the built-in battery to expand," Apple said in its Support page.
"This is not a safety issue and Apple will replace eligible batteries, free of charge. Affected units were manufactured between October 2016 and October 2017 and eligibility is determined by the product serial number," it added.
The programme will be available for five years since the original release of the "non-Touch Bar 13-inch MacBook Pro".
Apple, however, will not extend the standard warranty coverage of the devices. Users can contact the iPhone-maker for refunds if they have already paid for battery replacement.
This programme does not affect 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar or older 13-inch MacBook Pro models, Apple added.
How to check eligibility for MacBook Pro battery replacement programme
The process to know whether your MacBook has been affected by the battery swelling issue is fairly simple. Click on this link and enter the serial number of the device in the search box on the page, and hit submit.
To find out serial number of your Macbook, close your device and turn it over. The serial number is mentioned on the underside of the device, near the regulatory markings. The original packaging may also include the serial number.
