Disney+ shows on FaceTime: Upto 32 iPhone, iPad users can join in; Know how
Disney+ has expanded its watch together feature called ‘SharePlay’ for Apple iPhone users to stream movies and shows with their friends and family via FaceTime. With this new feature, users with iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV iOS 15.1 update (and on macOS with the latest Monterey update), can enjoy Disney content in sync with family and friends while on a FaceTime call.
This feature will cater upto 32 users at a time enabling each participant in FaceTime to choose audio and subtitles in their preferred language.
The new Disney+ SharePlay feature is available for the entire Disney+ content catalogue from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, to upcoming Disney+ premieres like Encanto (Dec. 24) and The Book of Boba Fett. Users can enjoy the synchronized content on their Apple TV as well while still sharing the moment with friends and family over FaceTime. However, there is a catch! All users in the session must be Disney+ subscribers and have devices running tvOS 15.1, iOS 15.1 or iPadOS 15.1.
Earlier, Disney Plus has a Group Watch feature for its users but streaming content via SharePlay is a new feature with enhanced techniques. This will allow users to do other things as well while their Apple devices stream movies or shows on their screens. Notably, Disney Plus’ GroupWatch feature will be available for kids’ profiles however these profiles can not be accessible through Apple’s SharePlay feature.
“With thousands of movies and shows and a growing content catalogue of new titles and originals, SharePlay provides another opportunity for personal friends and family around the world to come together and create new memories with their favourite stories on Disney+,” said Jerrell Jimerson, EVP of Product & Design, Disney Streaming.
Group Watch party has gained popularity during the Covid-19 lockdown when people were restricted to their homes. Netflix as well as Amazon Prime Video has also this feature that allows users to host a Teleparty while sitting at their home. Netflix has a Netflix Party feature, now called Telepathy while Amazon has a Watch Party feature that lets users watch movies and shows together.
