Tim Cook drops major hint on Apple VR and AR headsets; 'stay tuned'
Apple CEO Tim Cook commented on the future of Apple VR and AR headsets in a recent interview. Here’s what you should expect.
Many were hinting at the launch of an Apple VR, AR headsets during the WWDC 2022 keynote event, but sadly, that did not happen. However, the gadget is definitely on the front burner for Apple, if CEO Tim Cook's hint is to be believed. In a recent interview to China Daily USA on June 21, Cook said that everyone should “stay tuned” about its AR and VR headsets. Cook further said that Apple is excited about the opportunities available with augmented reality, which is not too far off from prior comments that he has made, MacRumours report quoted him as saying.
However, the interview hasn't offered concrete information regarding Apple's augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) headsets, but Cook's comments hint towards the expected arrival of these mixed reality headsets, especially the AR. "I am incredibly excited about AR as you might know, and the critical thing to any technology including AR is putting humanity at the center of it. And that is what we focus on every day," Cook said.
The interview specifically highlighted the “over 14,000 ARKit apps in the App Store, which offers AR experiences for millions of people around the world. Though, this is not the first time, when Cook has spoken about AR. Even, in the past, several hints have been given for these augmented and virtual reality headsets.
This should be noted that Apple has not confirmed officially about its work on these AR/VR wearable devices, but several rumours in the past suggested it is going to offer mixed reality technology. It is rumoured to feature two 4K micro-OLED displays, 15 camera modules, processors that must be equal to the M-series chips, support for hand gesture, and eye-tracking options. Right now, the leaks and rumours hint at the launch of these mixed reality headsets in 2023, around the second quarter. Though, to hear about the final arrival of the Apple VR/AR technology headsets, you will have to wait for the official confirmation from Apple.
