Windows 11 download: With the Microsoft Windows 11 update set to arrive in the first week of October, users are waiting eagerly to upgrade their computers to the next-generation version of the popular software. Windows 10 was released six years ago, and the upcoming Windows upgrade will be one of the biggest changes to the operating system so far.

However, as we've previously reported about the Windows 11 update, only a fraction of existing devices will be able to officially run Windows 11, according to Microsoft's official hardware specifications. According to Microsoft, Windows 11 minimum system requirements demand that computers will need to be running an Intel Core 8th Gen processor or newer, have an AMD Zen 2 processor or newer, or even a Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 or newer processor. This is in addition to other requirements including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot as well as 4GB and 64GB of RAM and disk storage space, respectively.

Needless to say, millions of Windows 10 computers that do not meet these requirements will not be receiving the Windows 11 update. The Verge recently reported that the company would not block users from manually installing Windows 11 on their unsupported computers if they installed it, but the same report also notes that users who install Windows 11 on these unsupported systems will not be eligible to receive Windows Updates. This means that users might be adversely affected by security flaws in the absence of drivers and security updates.

According to Forbes, Microsoft has refused to deny or confirm whether users who install Windows 11 manually on unsupported computers will lose access to updates, instead stating that it would have more to share at a later date, which could take place in the next couple of weeks, if the October 5 Windows 11 release date is kept in mind.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has officially announced that it will support Windows 10 on older PCs until 2025, which gives users of older computers enough time to decide if they want to upgrade their hardware at a later stage. But until then, users with older computers should stick to Windows 10 if they care about getting regular feature and security updates, on their computers.
