Reports from earlier this year suggested that Apple iPhone launches will be delayed this year since the production lines are affected with Coronavirus pandemic and lockdown. Now, a new report from Digitimes states that the smaller iPhones, the two 6.1-inch iPhone 12 handsets, might be going into production by next month. These will be using the display panels supplied by LG Display and BOE along with a separate touch controller from a third-party supplier. The other two iPhones are said to feature screens coming from Samsung with a common Y-Octa touch solution.

The 6.1-inch iPhones are said to go enter production before the other two because their touch controllers will be coming from third-party manufacturers. The 5.8-inch and 6.7-inch models are likely to use Samsung's integrated Y-Octa solution which won't require as much work. For those unaware, Samsung display tech has the Y-Octa flexible display directly on the OLED panel without the need of a separate touch layer.

This piece of information also resonates with what was mentioned by Ross Young, the founder of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) a few days ago. In a series of tweets, Young stated that iPhone 12's 5.4-inch OLED screen will be supplied by Samsung and not BOE. The expected display resolution is 2340x1080 pixels with 475 ppi and Y-Octa touchscreen tech. On the other hand, the iPhone 12 Max's 6.1-inch panel is said to come from BOE and LG Display and will have a 2532 x 1170 resolution with 460 ppi.

Ross added that the iPhone 12 panel's production can start around 6 week late from its scheduled time. He said that the production may begin from late July, which can in-turn push the launch date of the Apple iPhone 12 series from September to October.
