Apple iPhone 12 series are known for their new design, powerful processors, display and other features. However, iPhone 12 Pro Max in the series, got a special attention because of its new camera technology. The Sensor Shift camera stabilization is meant to deliver even more stable shots than the OIS-based cameras in iPhone 12 Pro and 12. So, to take a deeper look at it, YouTuber Zach from JerryRigEverything did a teardown of the device to see the mechanism behind it.

As seen in the teardown video on YouTube, the housing of the main camera sensor is bigger than what is there in iPhone 12 Pro. And that's because of the new image stabilisation process. The videos also shows that the main sensor of 12 Pro Max doesn't have OIS as it doesn't move. The YouTuber also says that this works in a similar was the in body image stabilisation or IBIS in DSLR cameras.

In addition, since the sensor is bigger and the so is the pixel size, the Pro Max is expected to capture more light, specially in low light environments for a sharper shot as compared to 12 Pro and 12. “Until now, sensor‑shift stabilisation was only on DSLR cameras. This is the first time it's been adapted for iPhone. Whether you're shooting a video of your kids as you chase them around the park or holding your iPhone out the window on a bumpy road, you'll get more precise stabilisation than ever,” says Apple on its website.

So, in case you are an Apple fan and don't mind spending on the best camera iPhone out there, the 12 Pro Max might be the best option. And given Apple's history of trickling down the ‘Pro' tech to more affordable range, we may see this tech coming both ‘Pro' models next year and in all the iPhone handsets a year after that. But then we're just guessing at this point.
