The iPhone 14 is likely to set many firsts with its launch on September 7. The iPhone 14 will bid ‘goodbye' to the notch-style display that was integral to earlier iPhones, in favour of a pill-shaped cutout, a major boost in the camera department, satellite connectivity, and even usher in the always-on-display feature. Another major change is the likely launch of the non-Pro giant iPhone 14 Plus/Max. However, while these are outstanding changes, if we look back at the journey of the iPhone so far, there is something awesome about the iPhone 6 that really made it a game-changer phone.

Launched in 2014, the iPhone 6 went really big! To cater to the demand for bigger smartphones, Apple introduced it biggest iPhone, much bigger than the earlier iPhone 5S, or even any other iPhone that came before it. With a 4.7-inches display that appeared for the first time on an iPhone, Apple scaled up the viewing experience of users phenomenally. Not just that, the iPhone 6 Plus variant went ever bigger with a 5.5-inch screen. Though that's not all, the iPhone 6 brought a lot more to the table.

iPhone 6: A massive change

Not just the bigger iPhone, Apple also recrafted the iPhone 6 while bringing back the curviness of the earlier generations, and ditching the squared-off edges that were there starting with the iPhone 4 back in 2010. With curved edges on iPhone 6, the back and sides were merged into each other. Moreover, it was slimmer than the previous iPhone 5.

What else? The arrival of NFC technology in iPhones. NFC, which stands for Near Field Communications, was one of the most exciting additions to the iPhone 6, which is a wireless communication technology that works as Apple's new mobile wallet service Apple Pay, which brings a new option for iPhone users to ditch traditional wallets and use the iPhone for payment. The iPhone 6 definitely kickstarted the tap-to-buy Apple Pay system.

With a change in design, a bigger display, and new features, Apple's iPhone 6 was definitely a game changer back in 2014. Apart from these, Apple stuck to its tradition while bringing a more powerful than before A8 chipset built using a 20nm manufacturing process, which was a step higher than the previous 28nm A7 chipset on the previous generation. However, in cameras, Apple sticks to the 8MP sensor but with a wider f/2.2 aperture for brighter and speedier shots.

The iPhone 6 presented what was futuristic in that era. But now, we are in 2022! All other smartphone brands are picking up their pace in the technology race. In such a smartphone-loaded market, all eyes still remain on the new iPhone 14 series with the hope of witnessing more new innovation from Apple.

So, will the iPhone 14 be a game-changer in this age and time as was the iPhone 6 in its era? You will find out on September 7 when it is launched.
