Samsung Exynos 1080 chip for mid-range phones set to launch on Nov 12

The 5G-enabled Exynos 1080 processor is likely to power many mid-range and budget Samsung handsets in 2021.

Samsung will soon launch a new Exynos processor that will be used for many of its handsets in 2021. Called Exynos 1080, the upcoming chipset is going to be aimed at mid-range and budget smartphones. Samsung is expected to launch a separate mobile platform for its flagship phones such as Galaxy S21, Z Fold 3, and next-gen Note series.

Samsung will showcase the new chipset on November 12, reports Sammobile. The company will hold an event in Shanghai, China for the same. As of now, Samsung has not disclosed the names of the phones that will be running the Exynos 1080.

That said, Samsung has already confirmed the existence of Exynos 1080 processor. The company recently revealed the chipset would feature ARM's new Cortex-A78 CPU cores and Mali-G78 GPU. According to ARM, its Cortex-A78 will offer at least 20% better performance than the predecessor, Cortext A-77. Another highlight of the Exynos 1080 is that it will come with 5G modem, which would pave the way for more affordable 5G phones in 2021.

The report comes after Exynos 1080's AnTuTu benchmark scores leaked online. The chipset reportedly bagged 693,600 points, edging out the likes of Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 865 Plus premium chips.

According to Sammobile, Exynos 1080 will succeed the Exynos 980, which launched last year. The 5G-enabled chip powered phones such as Samsung Galaxy A71 and Galaxy A51. Interestingly enough, an Exynos 981 has also been spotted online, but very little known is about this chip at the moment.
