Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Lite could be in the works
A cheaper foldable phone will help Samsung reach a greater number of users. But will it become a reality soon enough?
Foldable phones are still considered as luxury devices. A steep price tag has kept many buyers are bay despite an evident interest in devices that break the monotony of bar-like phones. Samsung, one of the early adopters of foldable phones, could be looking to address this problem with a cheaper model, dubbed as Galaxy Z Flip Lite.
According to a new rumour (via leakster DSCCRoss, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Lite might be manufactured in larger volumes as compared to older models. The smartphone could also leverage UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass) technology, which had debuted with the original Galaxy Z Flip.
The leakster does not state that a Z Flip Lite is in development.
“We don't hear about Z Fold Lite anymore but we are hearing about Z Flip Lite with UTG,” DSCCRoss said in a tweet.

That said, the new rumour should be taken with a pinch of salt, especially when there are no other credible leaks around the phone. But it does make a lot of sense for a company like Samsung to scale up its foldable phone arsenal and capitalise on the early mover advantage.

As of now, Samsung, Motorola and Huawei are among the top smartphone companies to have a significant presence in the foldable space. We are also hearing about a foldable iPhone. But do not get your hopes up just yet as the leaked timeline reveals a September 2022 release. While Apple can take its sweet time to deliver a foldable phone, Samsung can democratise the technology and its reach with lower price tags.
