Sony Xperia 1 III camera samples hit the web, here’s what to expect
The tipster’s account recently posted a few early sample photos taken from the Xperia 1 III.
Sony might not be as active as other players in the smartphone world but it makes sure to expand its lineup every year. This year, in April, it did the same with Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III but is pushing the sales of these until June this year. Its home country, Japan will be one of the first to see the release. And since the gap between the launch and sale spans through weeks, Sony has been trying to keep the hype alive by posting engineering talks around the camera and other promo videos. However, it has still not shown the camera samples and how the end result looks like from a smartphone that solely has cameras as its key feature.
But now, tipster ZACKBUKS on Weibo (via GSMArena) seems to have got some leads. The tipster’s account recently posted a few early sample photos taken from the Xperia 1 III. Not a lot of details are given but the sample does give us a good look at the three optical zoom levels from the rear camera setup.
The device has a 12-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture, 1.8µm pixel size and Dual Pixel PDAF with OIS. Then there is a shot from the 12-megapixel 1/2.9-inch sensor sized camera with PDAF and OIS. This also comes with a variable telephoto lens - the f/2.3, 70mm telephoto and the f/2.8, 105mm telephoto. There is also a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera in the handset.
For those unaware, Sony has also put in ZEISS lenses with T coating in both smartphone cameras. Additional software on these new devices include real-time Eye AF on top of the already existing Eye AF that works on both animals and humans, Optical SteadyShot, and 4K recording at 120fps. For selfies, there is an 8MP camera on the front, unchanged from the older iterations of these devices launched last year. The main difference this year is that there is the 3D ToF camera which is exclusive to the Xperia 1 III.
While the cameras are almost the same on the Xperia 1 III and the Xperia 5 III, what is different on the two devices is the screens. The Xperia 1 III uses a 6.5-inch 4K OLED panel that comes with a 21:9 aspect ratio and can run at 120Hz and display HDR content. On the other hand, while the Xperia 5 III can also run at 120Hz, it is a 6.1-inch OLED panel that comes with Full HD resolution, HDR support and the same 21:9 aspect ratio.
Both the Xperia 1 III and the Xperia 5 III are powered by the Snapdragon 888 but the former comes with 128GB of RAM and 256 or 512GB storage and the latter comes in 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB variants.
