Xiaomi could soon launch a premium phone with 16GB of RAM

16GB of RAM seems an overkill for mobile phones. With 5G and more power-intensive apps becoming more popular, smartphone companies are likely to step up the performance game.

Smartphone companies have gradually broken the RAM barrier. While 8GB seems the new normal for mid-range and premium phones, some companies have also tried to push the limits with over 10GB of RAM. Samsung earlier this year launched a specs-heavy Galaxy S20 Ultra with 16GB of RAM. Now, Xiaomi is likely to join the race with its next flagship phone.

According to a report, Xiaomi is working on a smartphone that will offer up to 16GB of RAM. Right now, there is no word on which phone will it be. But Xiaomi may likely have the feature in the upcoming Mi Mix smartphone. According to reports, the new Mi Mix will borrow design elements from the Mi Mix Alpha, a concept phone Xiaomi showcased earlier this year. The phone is believed to be in the production stage right now.

According to Phonearena, Xiaomi has two flagship phones planned. The first is rumoured as Mi Mix 4 and the other is said to be Mi 10S Pro. The second phone is rumoured to launch with a 144-megapixel camera. The website says the two phones are rumoured to have a 120Hz display.

As said earlier, there are very few phones in the market that have 16GB of RAM. While we have already talked about the Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung is said to bring the same RAM capacity on the Ultra model of its upcoming Note 20 phone. Chinese phone brand Nubia has also offered the same RAM capacity on its Red Magic 5G phone.
