Online SBI customers should be a worried lot. Phishing attacks on them are increasing and a single mistake can mean loss of money. While banking online is a blessing in these Covid-19 hit times, as bank customers do not have to step out of their homes to carry out financial transactions, but the negative part is that the rising net banking transactions have also attracted cybercriminals, especially as bank customers get careless. SBI account holders are now being warned by the state owned lender that they must not make any mistakes while carrying out net banking transactions as these can be costly.

Considering that State Bank of India is the biggest banking entity in India and almost all its services are available online, it provides a fertile ground for hackers to exploit. Now, reports are saying SBI account holders online have become a very big target for cybercriminals.

To ensure that hackers are defeated, SBI has taken to Twitter today and informed its account holders about what they should do to ensure their accounts stay safe. In fact, the State Bank of India used the perfect example to demonstrate what it means - it has used the most important country-wide campaign that is happening currently - vaccination drive against Covid-19 virus.

Online SBI customers have been told just like the virus is defeated by the vaccine and other methods like washing hands and wearing a mask, in the same way, customers should defeat these hackers by frequently changing their bank account passwords.

SBI tweet read: "Frequent change of password for your online accounts acts like a vaccine for viruses."

Over and above that, SBI tweet added: "Stay safe against frauds & cyber crimes with an alert mind & appropriate precautions."

SBI has also warned all its net banking customers that they should not open messages from unkown sources and that they must never click on links provided there. These links lead to fake websites and through them hackers get sensitive account details like usernames and even passwords. They then persuade innocent account holders to also divulge to them the OTP received by them.

If account holders show a little presence of mind, they will realise what is going on and not provide any information to these fraudsters.

Online fraud is rampant and the only way to defeat it and safeguard your money is by being careful all the time.
